10-man Sporting Kansas City beats Toronto FC 2-1

TORONTO (AP) — Substitute Jacob Peterson scored in the 80th minute to help 10-man Sporting Kansas City beat Toronto FC 2-1 on Saturday night.

The former Toronto midfielder took advantage of the hosts' inability to clear a deflected cross and poked the ball past goalkeeper Joe Bendik, just minutes after Kansas City captain Matt Besler was sent off in the 76th minute for a second yellow card.

Earlier, Jackson scored for Toronto in the 16th minute, before Graham Zusi equalized for defending MLS champion Kansas City shortly after half time.

Kansas City moved to 38 points on the back of its fourth straight win and sits atop the MLS Eastern Conference.

Toronto remained in third place on 26 points.

In Foxborough, Massachusetts, Ethan Finlay scored in the 84th minute and the Columbus Crew beat New England 2-1.

Finlay ran down a long ball from Justin Meram, shrugged off a defender, and hammered a shot into the back of the net, to condemn the Revolution to its eighth straight defeat.

Federico Higuain opened the scoring for the Crew in the 43rd minute, bending in a free kick around the wall from 23 yards. New England's A.J. Soares equalized form a Kelyn Rowe corner in the 50th.

Columbus moved to 26 points, level with Toronto, while New England, 23 points, continued its worst run since its club record of nine consecutive losses set in 1997-98.
