Health Protection Authority (HPA) has revealed that the number of dengue cases reported in the country in 2019 is higher than in previous years.

The Maldives recorded 4141 cases of dengue in 2019 but saw a slight reduction in the number of cases in November when compared with the previous month of October. November saw 366 cases of dengue while October saw 369 cases.

The increase of the disease is attributed to the wet season experienced by the country and HPA advised citizens to remain aware and take preventive measures against diseases such as Dengue and Chikungunya.

HPA did also report that the number of common cold cases in the country increased significantly in November. October saw 19910 cases while November saw 25701 cases recorded. A total of 229302 cases of common cold have been recorded in the country so far in 2019.
