Since 1970, Kuwait has been an important partner in the development of the Maldives.

Several infrastructure projects have been initiated by Kuwait in the Maldives, which stands testament to the close ties between the two nations. The main international airport of Maldives, Velana International Airport is a prime example of Kuwaiti assistance in the development of Maldives.
