Man arrested for entering Rasdhoo without permission, after overnight stay in Hulhumale’

Maldives Police Service, on Wednesday, arrested a man had travelled to A. A. Rasdhoo without permission from relevant authorities following an overnight stay in Hulhumale’.

According to the police, the man was a member of the crew of a fishing boat which had gone to Hulhumale’ to weight its fish.

The man in question went to the home of a relative who lived in Hulhumale’, where he stayed overnight.

He then returned to Rasdhoo without taking permission from either Health Protection Agency (HPA) or the COVID-19 taskforce in Rasdhoo.

The Greater Male’ Area is under lockdown at the orders of the Director General of Public Health, to contain a community spread. Entering or leaving the capital without the permission of the authorities is prohibited for as long as the lockdown remains in effect.

The Director General of Public Health has also ordered a ban on all non-essential travel between Maldivian islands.

Maldives has confirmed 618 COVID-19 infections. 20 people have recovered, while two people – an 83-year-old Maldivian woman and a 33-year-old Bangladeshi man – have died.
