President calls to prioritize unity and peace on the occasion of Eid

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has called on the country to prioritize unity and brotherhood as well as peace and prosperity and forgive each other, in his message on the occasion of Eid Al-Adha 2020.

The President made the remarks in his speech to the nation on the occasion. He noted the difficult days that humanity was enduring due to the COVID-19 pandemic during the occasion of Eid.

Difficulties in performing prayers and other acts of worship were faced due to the virus, said the President who added that the occasion of Eid was a golden opportunity to rekindle the strained ties with others due to COVID-19.

The President said that even though the virus had led to a shift in daily life activities, the opportunity to strengthen and increase relations between friends and family were still there.

“No matter how far we are, even if we cannot visit homes, even if we cannot hold mass gatherings and celebrations, we can still ask and clarify about their well beings and focus on exchanging the greetings of Eid, which is important on such an occasion.” Said the President who especially noted the importance of communicating and asking about the situation of the elderly figures of the family.

The President said that the occasion of Eid was one of sacrifice, prayer, unity and kindness among Muslims. Eid was an occasion that reminds us to maintain the peace and prosperity of the community.

“I ask the beloved citizens of the Maldives to prioritize peace and prosperity, brotherhood, and forgiving each other, from the wisdom of Eid Al-Adha connected to the holy pilgrimage of Hajj.” Said the President.

The President also called on the public to follow the advice of health professionals, such as maintaining social distancing and refrain from public gatherings in order to overcome the virus.
