COVID-19: Maldives records 17th death related to virus

Health Protection Agency (HPA) announced the death of a 52-year old local due to COVID-19 late last night.

In a tweet, HPA stated that the individual was a female who had attended the Emergency Room of IGMH around 16:40 yesterday. The woman was suffering from breathing difficulties when she attended the ER, according to HPA.

The time of death was recorded as 23:20 last night. This is the 17th death in relation to COVID-19 in the Maldives.

According to HPA statistics, Maldives currently has 3,567 total cases of the virus. A total of 156 cases were identified yesterday. COVID-19 cases have been on the rise since the country eased its lockdown measures on July 1. The Maldives currently has 983 active cases.
