President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has expressed condolences regarding the massive explosions in Beirut, Lebanon yesterday that killed more than 70 people.

The President said that the people of the Maldives were in solidarity with the people of Lebanon.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and all affected by this terrible tragedy.” The President said.

The explosion that rocked Beirut on Tuesday, flattened much of the city’s port and damaged buildings across the capital before sending a giant mushroom cloud into the sky.

More than 70 people were killed and 3,000 injured, with bodies buried in the rubble, Lebanese officials said.

Lebanon’s interior minister said it appeared that a large cache of ammonium nitrate in the port had detonated.
