Maldivian has conducted its 30th repatriation flight to Bangladesh of expatriates living in the Maldives who wish to return back home.

The flight was carrying 200 expatriates without proper documents as well as those that wished to return for other reasons.

So far, the national airline has repatriated 5,722 individuals. The majority were individuals without proper documentation.

Economic Ministry had stated that authorities had so far repatriated 4,751 expatriates last Thursday. They are repatriated after their police reports are evaluated and after the obtainment of proper documents from the High Commission.

The Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail has previously said that there was no way that the Maldives could forcibly repatriate expatriates without proper documents and a joint effort was required to tackle the issue.

The government has previously targetted to repatriate 20,000 undocumented migrants in the Maldives, out of the estimated 63,000 undocumented expatriates in the country.
