Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) official Dr. Ibrahim Afzal has said that the number of unlinked COVID-19 cases being identified in the capital Male' City was alarmingly high, which could indicate an increase in the community spread.

Previously, 193 unlinked cases were identified within just a week. The HEOC stated that this was indeed a worrying figure.

Speaking in a press conference last night, Dr. Afzal said that the identification of unlinked cases means that the disease was spreading in unknown means.

"In other words, the community spread is very intense," said Dr. Afzal.

The Maldives confirmed 146 additional cases of the virus last night as well, bringing the grand total of confirmed cases to 6,225.
