Deadline for Broadcom member's dismissal set

The Parliament’s Committee on Independent Institutions has set the deadline for the dismissal of Zeena Zahir from the Maldives Broadcasting Commission (Broadcom) to October 18, 2020.

The Committee moved to dismiss Zeena Zahir from the Maldives Broadcasting Commission (Broadcom) it was proposed by South Galolhu MP Mickail Ahmed Naseem.

Delays in her dismissal is due to her being on maternity leave. 

Vilimale’ MP Ahmed Usham proposed the deadline for her removal from the Commission, which was supported by MP for Inguraidhoo Hassan Ahmed. MPs of the Committee passed the resolution unanimously. 

The Committee began on deliberating on Zeena’s dismissal on August 10. Zeena will be provided the opportunity to respond to the case against her. She was appointed to the Broadcom on April 5, 2016.

Only Zeena, Amjad Waheed, and Aminath Sahaarath remain on the Broadcom as members appointed in the former administration. 

Two others were dismissed from the Broadcom after votes of no confidence were conducted.
