COVID-19: Maldives records 29th death

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced the death of a Maldivian male infected with COVID-19.

HPA said that the individual was a 79-year old local male. The individual was receiving treatment at the DH11 facility of Dharumavamtha Hospital when he passed away. 

The time of death was recorded as 1:42. HPA stated that this is the 29th death related to the virus in the Maldives.

The Maldives identified its first COVID-19 case on March 7 and declared a state of public health emergency over the pandemic less than a week later on March 12.

The total number confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Maldives currently stands at 7,804. The Maldives now has 2,615 active cases along with 5,155 recoveries.

There are 53 active COVID-19 cases in 31 residential islands outside of the greater Male’ area. One residential island outside of the capital, G. Dh. Thinadhoo is under monitoring.

There are also active cases in 15 resorts, including 14 tourists and 18 staff.
