Ex-President Waheed summoned to police for a second time

Former President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has been summoned to the police for a second time.

The former President was summoned for the first time to police for violating the HPA guidelines by taking part in a rally of the opposition coalition parties. 

Dr. Waheed who also serves as an advisor for the opposition coalition exercised his right to silence during the first time he was summoned to police. Dr. Waheed had said that he would only speak after appointing an attorney.

Dr. Waheed was summoned to the police at 16:00 today. The opposition main party PPM also confirmed this. 

Despite HPA guidelines barring gatherings of more than five people in Male' City due to COVID-19, opposition party members and supporters gathered in large number s on August 28. Some members of the opposition coalition were photographed with their masks lowered as well. 

Dr. Waheed was also photographed speaking at the rally without a mask. The former President was also not maintaining social distancing at the time.
