Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) has stated that 10 ventilators procured through the Dubai-based Executors General Trading fit the specifications requested by the government.

The company was awarded a controversial contract to source 75 ventilators to ramp up the capacity of the health sector in the Maldives in light of COVID-19. The Ministry rejected ten ventilators initially sent by the company for failing to meet the specifications.

A HEOC official stated to Sun today that the ten ventilators sent by the company again, now fit the specifications. The ventilators were received last week.

“It is the type of ventilators stipulated in the agreement. Works fine.” Said the official who added that discussions were now underway to procure the remaining 65 ventilators. No specific date for the ventilators have been received yet.

Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer had previously stated that the state would even go to trial to get compensation if the company failed to provide the ventilators.
