After a halt in lawyer meetings, Maldives Correctional Services (MCS) has stated that lawyer meetings would once again be recommenced as normal starting from tomorrow.

Due to COVID-19, lawyer meetings for inmates and detainees were temporarily halted. MCS said that the meetings would be permitted once again starting from tomorrow onwards.

MCS said that permits are to be obtained privately by visitors to the Maafushi prison and Asseyri Prison in Himmafushi. MCS also advised to take health precautions and safety measures when visiting.

Phone calls and video conference meetings would still be conducted. MCS said that physical meetings could once again be temporarily suspended if a case of COVID-19 was identified from a prison.
