Emirates to increase flight frequency to Maldives, begin daily flights

The largest airline of United Arab Emirates (UAE), Emirates has made the decision to increase the frequency of flights to Maldives by launching daily flights, throughout the week.

Emirates currently operates six weekly flights between Male’ and Dubai.

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), which manages Velana International Airport, announced in a tweet on Thursday that Emirates will begin operating daily flights between Male’ and Dubai starting Wednesday, October 7.

Emirates will use Boing 777 for the daily flights.

Maldives reopened its borders after a nearly four months of lockdown on July 15. Emirates resumed ts operations to Maldives the next day, on July 16.

Emirates carries a large volume of tourists from the Middle East and Europe to Maldives.

Since the lockdown, UAE has become the top source market for tourist arrivals to Maldives.

With the rising popularity of Maldives as holiday destination for travelers from UAE during the pandemic, UAE’s state-owned budget airline, flydubai, which had ceased operations to Maldives in 2018, has announced plans to resume operations, starting October 27.

Maldives is currently open to all tourists, provided they have proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken maximum 72 hours before departure from their original destination.
