Foreign Min. Shahid meets with diplomats from ASEAN countries

Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid, on Monday, met with high commissioners and ambassadors of some of the countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) appointed to the Maldives.

The meeting was held virtually, and was attended by the Indonesian High Commissioner for Maldives, the Malaysian High Commissioner for Maldives, the Lao Ambassador to Maldives, the Philippine Ambassador to Maldives, the Thai Ambassador to Maldives, and the Vietnamese Ambassador to Maldives.

According to the Foreign Ministry, Shahid and the diplomats exchanged information on the evolving situation of Maldives and ASEAN countries amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and discussed enhancing bilateral and multilateral relationships between the countries.

Shahid also took the opportunity to thank the countries for the support extended to Maldives amid the ongoing pandemic.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the meeting was an initiative of Shahid himself to cultivate closer relationships and interaction between the Foreign Ministry and foreign diplomats accredited to Maldives.
