Google Loon project balloon falls into Maldivian waters

A balloon used by Google for internet service provision in different regions of the world has fallen into Maldivian waters. 

The project by Google is a network of stratospheric balloons designed to bring Internet connectivity to rural and remote communities worldwide.

Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF)’s southern squadron were deployed to the area where the balloon fell as soon as reports of the incident were received around 10:08 by the Maldives Civil Aviation Authority. The balloon fell into the waters near G. Dh. Madaveli and Nadella, according to MNDF. 

The balloon was retrieved and later handed over to the Google team in the Maldives. No one was injured due to the incident.
