President ratifies education bill

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has today ratified the Education bill. 

The bill has now been published on the government gazette. The bill is to be implemented in the next academic year. 

It will guarantee the right of children and adults to gain education, as well as the rights of teachers. 

The bill requires education to be carried out in a manner that does not contradict with the religion of Islam and maintains public peace and unity. The purpose of the bill is to establish and enforce these principles. 

The bill requires Dhivehi language and Islamic creed to be taught during all levels of education starting from pre-school and higher secondary. 

Every child aged between four and 16 are required to gain education, according to the bill. Practicing teachers at the time of this bill coming into effect are required to register with the relevant board and gain their licenses as well.
