Horafushi Airport.

The opening of the domestic airport developed in H. A. Hoarafushi has been postponed due to bad weather.

It was arranged so that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih would visit the island today for the opening ceremony of the airport.

Transport Ministry said that due to bad weather, the opening was now postponed for tomorrow.

Test flights to the airport were conducted yesterday. An aircraft of the national flag carrier Maldivian landed at the airport today for the test flights.

The Transport Ministry has previously said that scheduled flights to the airport were to be commenced within a week.

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) developed the airport which has a runway of 1.2 kilometers as well as an apron of 86.35 square meters.

It was the current administration of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih which relocated the airport originally planned in Maafinolhu of the same atoll to Hoarafushi after coming to power. A land area of 345,000 square meters was reclaimed near Hoarafushi for the airport.
