Interpol, Financial Intelligence Unit sign agreement to tackle financial crimes

The Interpol National Central Bureau in Male’ and the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) of Maldives Monetary Authority have signed a memorandum of understanding for closer collaboration in tackling financial crimes.

According to Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed, the agreement will help bolster the capacity of local authorities to counter money laundering and terrorism financing, through expanded access to databases and other resources.

The FIU is an autonomous unit established within the MMA under the Counter-Money Laundering and Terrorism Finance Act.
