Eight more individuals have tested positive for COVID-19 from the southern island of Dhevvadhoo.

Dhevvadhoo Council Vice President Ibrahim Thaufeeg said that the total number of cases from the island had now increased to 24.

“Eight people tested positive today. Total cases are now at 24.” Said Thaufeeg.

No one was in serious condition despite the positive results. The total number of cases connected with the Dhevvadhoo cluster now stands at 30 with four from L. Fonadhoo and two from Hulhumale’.

The first case from Dhevvadhoo was identified on December 24. It was believed that the case was the original case for the cluster on the island. However, the Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) stated that the virus could have spread on the island before then.

There are 149 contacts related to the cluster with 55 high-risk individuals.
