Man charged for vandalizing female taxi driver's car

Charges have been brought forward against the suspects accused of vandalizing the car of a female taxi driver in the capital Male’ City. 

The driver Aminath Waheedha’s car has been vandalized on a number of occasions. 

Hamdhoon Ahmed, G. Aafathisge, K. Male’ has been charged with the matter under Article 220 (A) (1) of the Penal Code and (D) (3) which covers acts of vandalism and property damage. 

Article Section D, if the damage inflicted is higher than MVR 5,000 it is designated as a class 1 felony and could see the accused imprisoned for a period of four months and 24 days. The maximum punishment is a year in prison. 

PG Office stated that Hamdhoon is accused of vandalizing the vehicle AB1A T7083 belonging to Aminath Waheedha, Happy, G. Dh. Vaadhoo on October 7, 2020. The car was parked in front of the Drug Court building when the windshield was shattered with a rock. 

Charges were brought forward on December 29. Aminath has previously said that her car had been vandalized around five times in the past. Aminath is widely recognized as the only female taxi driver and has received a lot of public support for her work.
