Bank of Maldives (BML) has warned its customers against using third-party websites to confirm banking transactions.

BML stated that some websites such as www.kashavaru.com attempt to use the BML's Internet Banking platform to receive third-party transfer confirmations by initially requesting to provide personal information of customers such as name, contact number, and account number. Once a confirmation code is received, customers are required to enter the Internet Banking username and password.

BML advised customers against using internet banking details on external websites or sharing these details with anyone.

"We further advise customers not to use these websites for payment confirmation. Customers can use their Internet Banking or Mobile App to confirm transactions," said BML in a statement.

BML added that it took the responsibility of protecting customers’ personal information very seriously and several security measures have been put in place to protect customer information against unauthorized access, theft, or general misuse. The bank stated that a voluntary share of personal credentials with third parties breaches controls of the bank established to maintain personal information confidentiality.

The bank said, "We urge customers not to share personal banking information with anyone. We will continue to monitor such websites and will take the necessary measures to mitigate any risks to our customers."
