Maldives to appoint non-resident ambassador to Qatar

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih of the Maldives has decided to appoint a non-resident ambassador to Qatar. 

Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid announced the move, during an official visit by the President to Qatar, which concluded yesterday. 

Minister Shahid was part of the senior delegation which accompanied during this trip which marked the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

He added that Qatar had also accepted the proposal by President Solih.

The renewed relations would increase business, economical relations between the two nations. 

President Solih, during the visit, also met the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Thamim.
