A worker in Lh. Felivaru – home to the Felivaru fish canning factory - has tested positive for COVID-19, prompting health authorities to impose a temporary ban on travel in and out of the island.

Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) confirmed on Wednesday night that Felivaru has been placed under monitoring.

Felivaru regional manager Mohamed Ibrahim told Sun the worker who tested positive for COVID-19 is from Lh. Naifaru.

The worker tested positive while in Naifaru and was last in Felivaru four days before he tested positive, said Mohamed Ibrahim.

Authorities are conducting contact tracing in Felivaru in response to the case.
