COVID-19: 95 new cases in 24 hours, active cases at 2,621

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced 95 additional cases of COVID-19.

The new cases mean that the total number of confirmed cases in the Maldives has now reached 25,939, since confirming the first case in March of last year. According to HPA, the new cases include; 59 cases from the greater Male’ region, 22 cases from residential islands outside of Male’, and 11 cases from operational resorts as well as three from industrial islands.

Meanwhile, 101 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 23,242. The Maldives now has 2,621 active cases. There are currently 58 patients in hospitals.

HPA added that the positive cases confirmed last night were from 3,150 samples (including repeated samples) tested for COVID-19.

67 COVID-19 patients have died from complications.

Vaccine drive

Up until April 14, 274,782 people have received their first dose of vaccinations against COVID-19 in the Maldives, according to the HPA, with 28,970 people having received both shots of the vaccine,

The agency stated that 1,122 people had received the first dose of the vaccine while 3,601 people had received their second dose of the vaccine on April 14.

Over 57 percent of the total eligible population in the Maldives have now received their first dose. The Maldives is using the Astrazeneca-Oxford University developed vaccine as well as the Pfizer vaccine and Sinopharm vaccine for the national vaccine program.
