Parliament votes to reduce wages of Council Presidents

The Parliament has voted to reduce the MVR 23,000 wages of the Council Presidents by MVR 3,000, as per the amendments proposed by the Public Accounts Committee. 

Under the amendments passed today, Council Presidents would earn about MVR 20,000 while Vice Presidents would earn about MVR 15,000. Councilors would earn MVR 13,000. 

Under the amendments passed today, Mayors in the Maldives would earn MVR 40,000 while Deputy Mayors would earn about MVR 35,000. City Councilors on the other hand would earn about MVR 30,000. 

Atoll Council Presidents would earn about MVR 28,000. 

A total of 62 MPs voted to reduce the wages.
