Sources have confirmed to Sun that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih could reshuffle his cabinet soon with the likes of Fisheries Minister Zaha Waheed, who is often at the receiving end of criticism from the governing MDP lawmakers, fired from her post.

Sun has learned that the President plans on redesignating some cabinet members to other posts as well as letting go of some ministers in the next few days.

One of the members is said to be Fisheries Minister Zaha Waheed. President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih stated after the recently held local council elections that he would bring changes necessary within the government for the better.

Speaking on the topic, President's Office spokesperson Mabrouq Azeez said to Sun that the President was even now working on it.

"The President is in discussions with coalition leaders to improve the government conduct. Changes could be brought to how the government runs pretty soon," said Mabrouq without a clear refutation of the cabinet shuffle.

Zaha serves on a slot of the coalition party Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) which is headed by ex-President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.

Sun has also learned that the changes will only affect cabinet members who don't belong to the governing MDP. The cabinet shuffle comes even as the Technology, Science, and Communications Minister's post remains vacant after the firing of Maleeh Jamaal in March. The Ministry is being run by Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail on an interim basis.
