Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced a curfew on the southern cities of Addu and Fuvahmulah as part of preventive measures against the spread of COVID-19.

The curfew will be imposed on both cities from 21:00 to 4:00. People are also restricted from traveling between the different wards of the cities, as per the signed order by the Director-General of Public Health Maimoona Aboobakuru.

Residents are also not to visit other households in both cities.

Other measures imposed include halting dine-in services at cafes and restaurants with the exception of delivery and takeaway services. Stopping the services of salons and gyms.

The HPA order also prohibits public gatherings of more than three people in the cities. Sports activities are also to be stopped.

The measures are to be kept in place for seven days and come on the back of a massive surge in cases confirmed in the nation. Apart from Addu and Fuvahmulah, five islands in the Maldives including the capital are under partial curfews.
