Maldives’ COVID-19 death toll rises to 123

Health Protection Agency (HPA) announced on Saturday that a patient admitted to Hulhumale’ Medical Facility has passed away.

HPA identified the deceased as a 39-year-old Maldivian female.

She was declared dead at 08:25 pm.

“This is the 123rd COVID-19 death in the Maldives,” announced HPA.

Maldives has been experiencing a surge in both infection rate and fatalities in recent weeks.

This is the third COVID-19 fatality this Saturday. All three were patients admitted to Hulhumale' Medical Facility.

Maldives has 52,405 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 1,603 new cases recorded on Friday. 31,197 patients have since recovered.

The country currently has 21,079 active cases. 286 of the patients are hospitalized.

With the surge in positive cases and their contacts, health authorities have adandoned tracing all contacts and decided to limit contact tracing in the greater Male’ area to high-risk contacts.
