Russia has secured the crown as the top source market for tourist arrivals to the Maldives as of July 21.

Starting from the end of last year until this year’s May, the greatest number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives was recorded from India. However, as the COVID-19 situation in India significantly detoriated – the number of tourist arrival from the country also decreased – making Russia the top source market.

The latest statistics from the Tourism Ministry confirmed that a total of 136,955 Russian tourists arrived in the Maldives as of July 21. India takes second place with a total of 94,927 tourist arrivals – Germany taking third place with 31,617 tourist arrivals.

As per the Tourism Ministry stats, the tourism growth percentage has increased by 50% by this July, compared to that of last year.

In this regard, the Maldives has recorded a total of 575,931 tourist arrivals this year, as of July 21. The Ministry anticipates the numbers to increase during the upcoming days.

The Government of Maldives plans to introduce vaccine tourism in the fourth quarter of this year – as part of efforts carried out to rebuild the tourism sector following the impacts experienced due to the pandemic.
