MP for Dhangethi Constituency, former Defense Minister Colonel (Retired) Mohamed Nazim has confirmed that he will be contesting in the 2023 presidential elections should he win Maldives National Party’s (MNP) ticket during the primary.

In a press conference held by MNP today, Nazim stated that he is confident that the party can contest and win in the upcoming presidential elections.

He further detailed he believed that the people would accept the policies and the manifesto of the party based on the current political situation in the Maldives.

“The next question is whether I would compete in the primary. Everyone looks for a way one can advance. If the party members give me the ticket as their candidate for 2023 presidential elections – I will contest,” Nazim had added.

As per Nazim, MNP will be a standout party in comparison to existing political parties. Our Party’s constitution will state that an individual who becomes the leader of the party will only be able to remain in position for two terms.

“Any individual who wishes to compete in the elections with this Party’s ticket will have that chance. Just come and take part in our primary. The one who wins the primary is the one who will get the ticket,” he added.

Nazim further added that primary elections within MNP will be arranged in a manner a third party can monitor the elections.
