President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that teachers are the driving force behind fulfilling one of the important pledges of this Government – and assured that the Government will commence working on increasing the salaries and allowances paid to teachers as part of the state budget for next year.

Speaking at an assembly held at Rehendhi School this morning to mark the beginning of the academic new year, President Solih had said that teachers are the most active persons in human resource development. He vowed that the Government will include increasing the salaries and allowances of teachers in the state budget for next year – adding that the work carried out by teachers are hard to put a value on.

“Teachers were carrying out work that is hard to put a value on even prior to the pandemic. The Government is currently working on allocating a bigger sum of money for salaries and allowances of teachers in next year’s state budget forecast,” President Solih had said.

The President also urged to make the best use of this chance to resume physical classes once again – highlighting that most of the last academic year was spent in lockdowns. He also added that he hoped the new academic year commencing today with strict safety measures in place will see positive changes to the physical and mental of all students.
