COVID-19: 95 new cases, 62 from atolls

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Friday, announced 95 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in the Maldives to 79,754.      

According to HPA, the 95 new cases include; 24 cases from the greater Male’ region, 62 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and 9 cases from operational resorts. 

Meanwhile, 57 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 77,770.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 1,750 active cases.      

There are 16 patients in hospitals.      

5,675 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 1,705 from the greater Male' region.

Maldives has recorded 222 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives has launched an ambitious campaign to fully vaccinate 90 percent of the eligible population in the country by the end of this August. 

On Friday, a total of 4,417 people had gotten their first dose whereas a total of 772 people had gotten their second dose.

With these new developments, a total of 364,064 people have received their first dose out of which 298,328 people have completed the second dose.
