MTCC awarded Alifushi land reclamation and airport development project

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company Plc (MTCC) has been contracted for the land reclamation and airport development project at R. Alifushi – on a design and build basis – by the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure.

The agreement pertaining to the project was signed this afternoon. Ministry’s Director-General Fathimath Shaana Farooq signed on behalf of the Ministry – whereas MTCC’s Managing Director Adam Azim signed on behalf of the Company.

Work under the project will include the reclamation of 50.5 hectares of land at Alifushi – out of which 10 hectares will be allocated for the development of the island and housing. The remaining 40.5 hectares will be allocated for the airport.

As part of the airport development – MTCC is also tasked with constructing a runway to measures in 1200-meters. Additionally, for shore protection in the reclaimed area – 2781-meters of revetment will be built along with 480-meters of groynes.

The project is valued at MVR 451 million – and is supposed to be seen to its completion in a span of 750 days.
