Newly appointed Hungarian and Argentinian ambassadors present credentials to President

Two newly appointed foreign ambassadors to the Maldives have presented their credentials to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih today.

András László Király, the newly appointed Ambassador of Hungary to the Maldives, presented his credentials to President Solih at a ceremony held this morning at the President’s Office.

A meeting between the two was held following the credentials ceremony at which President Solih welcomed Ambassador Király to the Maldives – and congratulated him on the commencement of his term. During the meeting – President Solih highlighted the positive strides made by the Maldives and Hungary to in fostering bilateral tires over the years.

President Solih also extended his gratitude to the Hungarian Government for supporting the Maldives’ candidature during the 76th Nations General Assembly (UNGA) elections, held in June.

Following this, the two discussed exploring new avenues of cooperation in higher education – to which Ambassador Király pledged his commitment to expanding cooperation in the field, detailing that the Hungarian Government is working to provide fully-funded scholarship opportunities to Maldivian students.

Ambassador Király also expressed interest to assist in food security, tourism and water management. He also added that Hungary wishes to explore mutually beneficial investment opportunities in the Maldives.

President Solih also discussed the recently concluded Senior Officials Meeting between the Maldives and the European Union – expressing his confidence that the ties between Maldives and the EU, be enhanced during the upcoming years.

Climate change was noted as high ranking on their national agenda by both the President and the Ambassador – affirming their mutual commitment to garner international support to address it. In this regard, President Solih expressed the wish to work alongside Hungary in the lead up to and during COP26 to be held in Glasgow later this year, and explore collective efforts to shift to renewable and alternate forms of energy in place of fossil fuels.

Dr. Hugo Javier Gobbi, the newly appointed Ambassador of Argentina to the Maldives, presented his credentials to President Solih at a ceremony held this afternoon at the President’s Office.

A meeting between the two was held following the credentials ceremony at which President Solih welcomed Ambassador Gobbi to the Maldives – and congratulated him on the commencement of his term. He also thanked the Argentinian Government for supporting the Maldives’ candidature during the 76th Nations General Assembly (UNGA) elections, held in June.

Responding to the President’s remarks, Ambassador Gobbi said that a close friend and support of the Maldives – Argentia was honored to help and happy to see the Maldives play a major role in the international arena developing multilateral relations.

Speaking further to Ambassador Gobbi, President Solih stressed that Maldives hoped to see further collaboration between the two countries, especially in the areas of tourism, sustainable development and upholding human rights and climate change.

During the meeting, the President and the Ambassador spoke at length regarding climate emergency – with Ambassador Gobbi stated that Argentina will follow the Maldives’ example in playing a more significant role in the climate crisis, especially ocean conservation. President Solih also expressed the wish to work alongside Argentina in the lead up to and during COP26 to be held in Glasgow later this year, and explore collective efforts to shift to renewable and alternate forms of energy in place of fossil fuels.

In concluding both the meetings – the President and the ambassadors had affirmed their commitment to further strengthen the ties between Maldives and the respective country.
