COVID-19: 61 new cases; 1,612 active cases

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Friday, announced 61 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 84,164.    

According to HPA, the 61 new cases include; 29 cases from the Male’ region, 24 cases from residential islands outside of Male’ region, and eight cases from operational resorts.

Meanwhile, 101 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 82,309.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 1,612 active cases.      

There are 16 patients in hospitals.      

3,674 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 1,669 from the greater Male' region.

Maldives has recorded 230 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives began its vaccination campaign in February. The country has also begun vaccinating children above the age of 12 years in August.

On Thursday, a total of 115 people had gotten their first dose whereas a total of 826 people had gotten their second dose.

With these new developments, a total of 391,542 people have received their first dose out of which 335,119 people have completed the second dose.
