A government official has stated that the delays in depositing the salaries of employees working in some health centers are attributed to the over-deposit of salaries to some healthcare workers last month by mistake.

Some healthcare workers have expressed concern over the delays in receiving their salary for the month of September – on social media.

Maldives Health Professional Union had also raised concerns over the non-deposit of salaries of employees working at health centers in Raa Atoll, Kaafu Atoll, Gnaviyani. Atoll, Haa Alifu. Atoll, Baa Atoll., Faafu Atoll and Dhaalu Atoll.

A senior government official who wished not to be named had told Sun that the delays in the deposit of salary for the month of September was due to the fact the salaries were over-deposited to some health care workers last month by mistake.

“Because of what happened – efforts are currently underway to update the information of all employees. The most recent information of all employees are sought in this regard. Deposit of salaries have been delayed for employees whose information needs to be updated,” the official had said.

Health Ministry’s Media Official Fathimath Shooba confirmed to Sun that the salaries of some healthcare workers were being delayed this month – as information updating was ongoing.

Shooba added that information updating will be completed soon – following which the salaries would be deposited within the next two or so days.

When the salary for the month of August was deposited to health sector workers – a total of 1,796 workers had received more than their allocated salary, whereas some had even received less than their allocated salary.

The matter was brought to the attention of Finance Ministry – following which they had launched efforts to retrieve the over-deposited amount and deposit the remaining sum of the allocated salary for employees who had received less.

Finance Ministry also stressed that all matters pertaining to the issuance of salary has now been arranged in a way that such a mistake can never happen again in the future.
