COVID-19: 79 new cases; 1,733 active cases

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Monday, announced 79 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 91,543.      

According to HPA, the 79 new cases include; 25 cases from the greater Male’ region, 52 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and 2 cases from operational resorts. 

Meanwhile, 113 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 89,747.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 1,733 active cases.      

There are 12 patients in hospitals.      

4,164 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 1,163 samples from the greater Male' region. The positivity rate in the greater Male’ area is at 2 percent.

Maldives has recorded 250 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives began its vaccination campaign in February. The country expanded the campaign to begin vaccinating children between 12 years and 17 years of age in August, and began administering booster doses in October.

As of present, 395,672 people have received their first dose and 363,580 people have been fully vaccinated, and 10,331 have received their booster dose.
