COVID-19: 100 new cases, 70 from atolls

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Wednesday, announced 100 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 91,750.      

According to HPA, the 100 new cases include; 26 cases from the greater Male’ region, 70 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and four cases from operational resorts. 

Meanwhile, 39 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 89,813.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 1,673 active cases.      

There are 14 patients in hospitals.      

3,696 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 1,283 samples from the greater Male' region. The positivity rate in the greater Male’ area is at 2 percent.

Maldives has recorded 251 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives began its vaccination campaign in February. The country expanded the campaign to begin vaccinating children between 12 years and 17 years of age in August, and began administering booster doses in October.

As of present, 395,781 people have received their first dose and 364,082 people have been fully vaccinated, and 12,193 have received their booster dose.
