Two convicted of child sexual abuse pardoned

Two individuals that have been convicted of child sexual abuse and were serving jail time for the crimes – have been pardoned.

As per the Child Sex Offenders Registry which was updated by Gender Ministry yesterday – two individuals named in the list are said to have been pardoned.

The two individuals who have been pardoned by Clemency Board as per the Registry are Afrah Hussain, 31, Bolijehige, HDh. Maavaidhoo and Mohamed Jaleel, 28, Jahaamugurige, N. Magoodhoo.

Afrah was convicted of carrying out sexual relations with a minor on March 24, 2013. He was sentenced to 14 years in jail.

Jaleel was convicted of the same crime on December 27, 2012. He was sentenced to 10 years in jail.

Clemency Board was constituted to prescribe the procedure concerning clemency of individuals convicted of criminal offenses when requested by convicts from the President.
