Maldives to vaccinate children between the ages of 5 and 11 against COVID-19

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has stated that preparations to begin vaccinating children between the ages of 5 to 11 against COVID-19, are currently complete.

At a press conference held today to brief on the latest updates of the COVID-19 situation in the Maldives – HPA’s Public Health Program Manager, Immunization Program Nashiya Abdul Gafoor said that efforts were underway to bring the vaccines children of this age group will be receiving to the Maldives.

“At present, we have planned how to roll out and collected total numbers and such through different parties. All preparations necessary from our side, we have completed the preparations,” she added.

Maldives currently has an ongoing vaccination campaign to vaccinated school children. In this regard, the country began vaccinating school children between the ages of 12 and 17 in August 15. They are administered the Pfizer vaccine; a shipment of 128,700 doses donated by the United States through the COVAX Facility.
