COVID-19: 291 new cases; 10,661 active cases

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Sunday, announced 291 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 174,658.    

According to HPA, the 291 new cases include; 44 cases from the greater Male’ region, 229 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and 11 cases from operational resorts. 

Meanwhile, 2,150 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 163,687.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 10,661 active cases.      

There are 4 patients in hospitals.      

2,103 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 341 samples from the greater Male' region.  

With the 291 new infections on Sunday, 2,082 people have tested positive over the last one-week period.  

March 13: 291 cases 

March 12: 204 cases 

March 11: 172 cases 

March 10: 325 cases 

March 9: 329 cases 

March 8: 273 cases 

March 7: 488 cases 

Maldives has recorded 297 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives began its vaccination campaign in February last year. The country expanded the campaign to begin vaccinating children between 12 years and 17 years of age six months later, in August, and began administering the booster dose the same month. 

As of Saturday, 398,348 people have received their first dose and 371,439 people have been fully vaccinated, and 143,477 have received their booster dose.
