Police commences check program of sea vessels

Maldives Police Service has commenced a check program of sea vessels in order to identify compliance with marine safety guidelines.

The authority detailed that the program which commenced on last Tuesday is a joint initiative of its Marine Investigation Department and Marine Enforcement and Operations Department in conjunction with Eid-al-Fitr holidays during which high sea traffic is expected as more people travel. They cited the purpose of the check program to be ensuring the safety of travelers and identifying compliance of sea vessels with marine safety guidelines.

Under this program, vessels operating as ferries to islands and vessels docked at North Harbor and T-Jetty area will be checked by Police.

Police also noted that they will be sharing information regarding marine safety with crews onboard.

The check program is scheduled to continue until May 2.
