Covid cases fall in the atolls

Statistics released by Health Protection Agency (HPA) shows COVID-19 cases have begun to fall in residential islands outside the Maldivian capital.

Total 77 new cases were reported in Maldives in the one-week period from May 8-14. This includes 28 cases from the greater Male’ region, 19 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and 30 cases from other areas such as resorts and industrial islands.

It’s a significant drop from the total 312 new cases reported in Maldives the previous week, from April 14 and May 7. The cases had included 43 cases from the greater Male’ region, 222 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and 47 cases from other areas.

With the 77 new cases last week, Maldives now has 179,483 new cases. 298 people have died from complications.
