An officer from Maldives Police Service has been selected to work at the Interpol headquarters in a historic first.

The announcement was made by Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed in a tweet Tuesday evening.

According to Hameed, a serving chief inspector from MPS will be deployed to the Interpol headquarters in Lyon, France, by the end of this year.

He said the Interpol has already completed the selection process.

The officer selected will work at the Interpol headquarters for three threats at the Specialist Crime Unit.

“This demonstrates Maldives’ contribution to enhance the globe’s effort to fight crime,” he said.

Hameed said it will put MPS’ flag high among others in the international arena, and pave ways for the service to further develop its capacity and capabilities.
