Main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) officials will head to atolls starting May in order to seek information required to formulate their manifesto for the upcoming presidential elections.

Four months remain for the awaited presidential election. All competing political parties are preparing to kick off their campaigns.

Briefing Sun regarding efforts underway in this trajectory, MDP’s Deputy Chairperson Ibrahim Waheed (Iburey) said the main purpose of the trips to atolls party officials will undertake is to seek information required to formulate its manifesto.

The trips are scheduled for May 11th, 12th and 13th.

Iburey said all members of the party holding senior posts will take part in the trip including the party’s parliamentary representatives and constituency presidents.

“We will kick off the campaign a bit later. Trips will be made to all regions across the Maldives. This (trip) is in preparation for the campaign. To seek the required information,” he said.

Iburey said an official date to commence the party’s campaign will soon be announced.

MDP’s presidential candidate for the upcoming presidential election is President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih who won the party’s presidential primary by a landslide difference in votes.

MDP’s leader, Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed, who lost the presidential primary, has formed a separate political movement within the party, Fikuregge Dhirun, which is working against the party’s presidential candidate.
