President: Journalists - the real source of democratic progress in Maldives

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih credited local journalists with the progress made in Maldives’ democratic journey on Wednesday, in an address on occasion of World Press Freedom Day.

In his address, President Solih stressed the need to use the experience gained by the local press to make the future of journalism brighter.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting press freedom.

President Solih said that the responsibility of protecting press freedom also lies with journalists.

He urged journalists to make the establishment of equality among the people, and protection of the basic human rights of all members of society their highest duty.

President Solih re-affirmed his administration’s commitment to ascertaining the right of all citizens to freedom of expression and access to information.
