BVISM and Javaabu partner to develop app for the blind

BVISM and Javaabu sign agreement for the development of a Dhivehi text-to-speech app on June 7, 2023.

Maldives-based web development firm Javaabu and the Blind and Visually Impaired Society of Maldives (BVISM) signed an agreement on Wednesday, to develop a Dhivehi text-to-speech application to assist the blind and visually impaired.

The MVR 300,000 app is being financed with funds the BVISM received from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) through the Miyaheli Project.

Javaabu is working on having the app ready in the next six months.

The app will instantly convert the Dhivehi text displayed on phone screens to speech. The app will also work on photos of documents and anything else with Dhivehi text.

Javaabu expects the app will be of great help to the blind and visually impaired.
