The development of the project is funded by two loans from India’s EXIM Bank worth USD 116.45 million and USD 110.5 million. The Maldivian government provided sovereign guarantees for both loans.

FDC, on Thursday, gave media groups a tour of towers presently under development.

NBCC’s works

Six towers built by NBCC are 17-storeys with two-room apartments. The remaining 10 towers are 19-storeys with three-room apartments.

Only piling and foundation works have been completed for most towers contracted to the company. Sheeting works at some of the towers have subsequently been initiated.

The official said that all towers contracted to NBCC will be completed within the first quarter of 2025, and made tenantable the same year.

JMC’s works

The company is mostly undertaking sheeting works at most towers. Concrete works at some towers are nearing completion while one tower has been completely finished, whereas the finishing works are underway.

FDC’s feedback on the works

FDC’s Business Development and Corporate Affairs Manager Shamool Abdulla, speaking to the media, said the work is progressing according to the timeline. He reasoned that different towers are in different stages of development as work had not commenced on them simultaneously.

“There is no tower where physical work has not begun. The foundation of works at all towers have been completed and are above the ground now,” he said.

FDC, noting the work is undertaken in phases, said the priority at present was to complete all work under phase one.

Shamool said the biggest difference between FDC’s projects and the housing units that were recently developed in Hulhumale’ is the former’s more spacious than the latter. He also noted the project’s inclusion of an elevator to accommodate stretchers for sick people while its stairs would also be developed this way.

Once the towers are complete, FDC said they will open bookings for the public to tour the premise.
